Hubballi Hosts Grand International Kite Festival and Cultural Celebration

The vibrant city of Hubballi witnessed the grand inauguration of the International Kite Festival and Sansad Samskrutika Utsav, a cultural extravaganza presented by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. The event was officially launched by Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, who emphasized the critical role of co-curricular activities in shaping well-rounded individuals.

Emphasis on Holistic Student Development

Speaking at the festival on Saturday, Chairman Basavaraj Horatti delivered a powerful message about education beyond textbooks. "Participating in co-curricular activities will boost students' development mentally and physically," Horatti declared. He elaborated that exclusive focus on academic studies does not sufficiently enhance a student's educational journey. Such platforms are immensely useful for mental and physical well-being, he noted, praising Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for his initiative in organizing this significant event.

Reviving Indian Cultural Traditions

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, addressing reporters, highlighted the festival's deeper cultural significance. "Flying kites is our Indian tradition and culture, which is fading away. Now we are pushing to organize a kite festival to revive this cherished practice," Joshi stated nostalgically. He reminisced about childhood experiences, recalling how they crafted kites from paper and broomsticks to fly them in the sky. The minister also announced that kite flyers from numerous countries had arrived to participate, showcasing the event's international appeal.

Widespread Participation and Diverse Activities

The festival featured an array of engaging activities that drew massive participation:

  • Kite Displays: The sky was adorned with kites depicting birds and animals in various colorful themes, creating a mesmerizing visual spectacle that captivated onlookers.
  • Painting Competition: Thousands of school students enthusiastically participated in a painting competition organized as part of the festival.
  • Indigenous Sports: Traditional games such as yoga, mallakambha, lagori, and tug-of-war were conducted, promoting physical fitness and cultural heritage.

Joshi further revealed that the Sansad Krida Mahotsav, a month-long sports initiative across all constituencies, had already attracted over 30,000 participants. This overwhelming response indicates a positive shift toward embracing sports and cultural activities, he remarked, underscoring the community's enthusiasm for such events.

The International Kite Festival and Sansad Samskrutika Utsav in Hubballi not only celebrate India's rich traditions but also foster holistic development through diverse co-curricular engagements, setting a benchmark for cultural revival and student empowerment.
