In a heartwarming incident straight out of a movie, a determined Kerala bride ensured her wedding proceeded as planned, even after a serious car crash sent her to the hospital on the morning of her big day. The ceremony was swiftly moved to the emergency department of a Kochi hospital so the couple could honor the sacred muhurtam, or auspicious time.
A Wedding Day Takes an Unexpected Turn
The story began on the morning of Friday, November 21, 2025. Avani, a native of Kommadi in Alappuzha, was on her way to Kumarakom to get her bridal makeup done when the car she was travelling in skidded and crashed into a tree. Locals rushed the injured bride to Kottayam Medical College for initial treatment.
After doctors detected a spinal injury, she was transferred to the specialized VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi around midday. This was the same day she was scheduled to marry V M Sharon from Thumboli, with the ceremony set for around noon.
The Race Against Time to Honor the Muhurtam
With the all-important muhurtam fixed between 12:15 pm and 12:30 pm, the families faced a difficult choice. Postponing the wedding was not their first option. Both Avani and Sharon, along with their families, were determined to keep the auspicious timing.
After urgent discussions with the medical team, the hospital administration agreed to a unique request. They decided to create a space within the Emergency Department for the wedding rituals. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that every care was taken to ensure Avani was not put through any additional discomfort during the proceedings.
A Ceremony of Love and Resilience
In a scene that moved everyone present, the hospital staff quickly prepared the area. Surrounded by a handful of close relatives, doctors, and nurses, the wedding took place. Fighting through searing pain from her injuries, Avani lay on the hospital bed as Sharon tied the thali around her neck, officially solemnizing their union as husband and wife.
Dr. Sudheesh Karunakaran, Head of Neuro Surgery at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, later provided a medical update, confirming that Avani had suffered a spinal injury and would be undergoing surgery soon. The incredible effort by the families and the hospital ensured that the couple's special day was not lost to circumstance, creating a powerful real-life story of commitment that has since captured hearts across the country.
