Kudiyada Samskruthika Namme-26 Cultural Exhibition Inaugurated in Kodagu
The unique cultural exhibition Kudiyada Samskruthika Namme–26, dedicated to showcasing the rich heritage of the Kudiya community in Kodagu, was officially inaugurated at Yavakapadi in the district. This significant event was organized through a collaborative effort between the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy and the Nalnad Pommale Kudiya Cultural Committee, aiming to preserve and promote indigenous traditions.
Emphasis on Cultural and Intellectual Progress
During the inauguration, AC Mahesh Nachaiah, president of the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, highlighted the importance of blending culture with tradition for intellectual advancement. "Only when culture and tradition are combined can any community see intellectual progress," he stated. Nachaiah praised the Kodavas for their distinctive identity and achievements across various fields, noting that the Kudiya community has been an integral part of Kodava culture, language, and folklore since ancient times.
Calls for Preservation of Language and Heritage
PG Aiyappa, president of the Kodava Takk Janangakaranda Union, underscored the urgent need to safeguard language and cultural practices from erosion. Echoing this sentiment, Kudiyara Muthappa, a prominent functionary of the Kudiya community, emphasized the role of the family in cultural transmission. "Home should be the first school for embedding language, culture, and tradition in one's heart," he remarked. Muthappa urged mothers to teach their children the Kodava language and cultural values from infancy, suggesting that learning Balopat—a traditional element—would illuminate the entire cultural framework.
Celebrating Achievements and Community History
The event also served as a platform to honor several achievers from the Kudiya community, recognizing their contributions and inspiring future generations. K Bopaiah provided an insightful overview of the community's history and evolution, revealing that the Kudiya population currently stands at approximately 2000 individuals. This presentation offered attendees a deeper understanding of the community's roots and development over time.

Attendees were treated to a variety of cultural programmes that vividly displayed the folklore and artistic expressions of the Kudiyas. These performances included:
