In a significant event for art collectors and enthusiasts, three distinct lots featuring the works of renowned Indian artist Nandalal Bose are set to be offered in an upcoming online auction. This marks the first time these particular pieces from the Bengal School master are being made available to the public, promising a rare glimpse into his creative genius and personal exchanges.

The auction, organized by AstaGuru Auction House under its Master's Legacy series, showcases Bose's diverse artistic output. This work, designated as a National Art Treasure and acquired directly from the artist, exemplifies Bose's spiritual lyricism and refined draughtsmanship. It has been selected as the leading image for the auction catalogue and carries an estimated value of Rs 2 to 3 crore.
The second lot offers a more intimate perspective, comprising 24 handwritten letters exchanged with artist Indra Dugar, seven accompanying envelopes, and one autographed photograph. Dated between 1935 and 1959, this collection provides invaluable insight into the artistic dialogue, mentorship, and shared inquiries that characterized the Santiniketan artistic community. The third lot features a 1953 watercolour landscape, reflecting Bose's lyrical engagement with nature and his enduring command of line and tonal restraint.

Sunny Chandiramani, director of client relations at AstaGuru Auction House, emphasized the importance of these works, stating, "The 1943 painting reflects his mastery in reinterpreting myth through a distinctly Indian visual language. The letters reveal a more intimate dimension of Bose's practice, shedding light on the dialogue, mentorship, and shared artistic inquiry that shaped the Santiniketan milieu."
Nandalal Bose, a leading figure of the Bengal School, joined Kala Bhavana at Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan in 1920 and later served as its principal.
