Puducherry Heritage Walk on Nov 16 by Interglobe & Indigo

History enthusiasts and culture lovers are in for a treat as Puducherry prepares to host a unique guided heritage walk through its iconic historic quarters this November. The event, a collaborative effort between Interglobe Foundation and Indigo Reach, promises an immersive journey into the town's rich and layered past.

Walk Details and Assembly Point

The curated heritage walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Participants are requested to assemble at the starting point, the Notre Dames des Anges Church, at 7:15 AM sharp to ensure a timely commencement of the exploration.

Expert Guides and Thematic Journey

This walk is not just a tour but an educational experience led by distinguished experts. The journey will be spearheaded by Ashok Panda, the coordinator of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach). With over 15 years of experience in heritage conservation across Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, Panda brings deep local knowledge.

He will be accompanied by Puviarasan, a celebrated conservationist and experimental educator who was recently honored with the 2024 Jane Goodall Templeton Prize for India. Together, they will guide participants under the evocative theme, ‘Through the French and Tamil Quarters: A Tale of Two Towns’.

Exploring Puducherry's Cultural Tapestry

This walk offers a rare opportunity to delve into the dual identity of Puducherry. Participants will traverse the distinct cultural landscapes shaped by French colonial heritage and deeply rooted indigenous Tamil traditions. The route is designed to showcase this fascinating blend.

Attendees will explore a variety of significant sites, including historic temples, ancient churches, and bustling local marketplaces. The organisers emphasize that this is more than a sightseeing trip; it is a chance to gain profound insights into the town's cultural heritage and understand the rhythm of everyday life that has evolved from this unique confluence of cultures.

This initiative by Interglobe Foundation and Indigo Reach highlights a growing interest in experiential and educational tourism, allowing people to connect with India's diverse history in a personal and engaging way.
