Massive Turnout for Savadatti's Renuka Yellamma Jatra
The annual pilgrimage to the Goddess Renuka Yellamma temple in Savadatti witnessed an enormous influx of devotees throughout the month of February. Pilgrims from across Karnataka and neighboring Maharashtra thronged the sacred site, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion and celebration.
Transport Corporation's Extensive Bus Operations
To accommodate the substantial pilgrim traffic, the North West Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) launched a comprehensive transportation initiative. Operating from the Nippani depot under the Chikkodi division, the corporation deployed a total of 731 buses specifically for the month-long yatra.
This massive logistical effort resulted in impressive revenue generation of Rs 2.75 crore, showcasing both the scale of participation and the efficiency of the transport arrangements.
Strategic Deployment and Management
Initially, buses were mobilized from six different divisions to handle the anticipated rush:
- Gadag Division
- Bagalkot Division
- Sirsi Division
- Haveri Division
- Belagavi Division
- Chikodi Division
These vehicles were strategically positioned at the Nippani depot during the peak pilgrimage period. Following the conclusion of the yatra, all buses were systematically returned to their respective home depots, ensuring smooth operational transitions.
Fare Structure and Pilgrim Incentives
The transport department implemented a standardized fare of Rs 57 per kilometer for bus rentals during the Savadatti Renuka jatra. The pilgrimage typically spans two days and covers approximately 300 kilometers.
A significant concession of up to 50 kilometers in travel distance proved particularly attractive to devotees, especially those journeying from Maharashtra. This discount initiative substantially boosted demand for NWKRTC services throughout the festival period.
Modern Fleet and Operational Excellence
Depot manager BM Sangappa reported enthusiastic response from devotees who traveled to Savadatti consistently throughout February. The corporation deployed special Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) compliant buses featuring:
- 50-seat capacity configurations
- Automatic door systems for enhanced safety and convenience
- Modern amenities for passenger comfort
Exceeding Revenue Targets
Divisional control officer MR Munji revealed that the division had set an ambitious revenue target of Rs 2.5 crore for this year's yatra operations. The actual earnings of Rs 2.7 crore not only surpassed this goal but also represented a significant increase from last year's revenue of Rs 2.4 crore.
Celebrating Operational Success
The successful execution of these transportation services brought considerable satisfaction to the entire NWKRTC team at the Nippani depot. Officials, drivers, conductors, and support staff all played crucial roles in managing the substantially increased passenger traffic during this important pilgrimage season.
Their coordinated efforts ensured safe, efficient, and comfortable travel for thousands of devotees participating in this significant religious and cultural event.
