The Karnataka government has announced a 50% rebate on pending traffic e-challan fines, applicable to cases registered by the Police Department where penalties have not yet been paid. The concession is valid until July 10, 2026.
Details of the Rebate Scheme
This initiative aims to ease the burden on vehicle owners who have accumulated unpaid traffic fines. The rebate covers all e-challan cases filed by the state police, excluding those under the jurisdiction of other enforcement agencies. Motorists can avail the discount by paying the reduced amount through official online portals or designated payment centers before the deadline.
How to Avail the Benefit
To benefit from the 50% reduction, offenders must check their pending challans on the official Karnataka traffic police website or mobile app. Payment can be made via net banking, credit/debit cards, or UPI. The system automatically applies the discount at the time of payment for eligible cases.
- Only cases registered by the Police Department are eligible.
- The rebate does not apply to fines imposed by other authorities like the transport department.
- Offenders must clear fines before July 10, 2026, to avail the concession.
Government's Objective
The state government introduced this scheme to encourage voluntary compliance and reduce the backlog of unpaid challans. Officials believe that the rebate will prompt many defaulters to clear their dues, thereby improving road safety and enforcement records.
Traffic police have urged citizens to take advantage of the offer and avoid further legal action. After July 10, full penalties will be applicable, and non-payment may lead to prosecution.
