Sabarimala Serves Grand Sadya Annadanam Starting Tuesday
Sabarimala Launches Traditional Sadya Feast for Pilgrims

Sabarimala Pilgrims to Receive Traditional Sadya Feast

The Travancore Devaswom Board has announced an exciting new initiative for devotees visiting the sacred Sabarimala temple. Starting this Tuesday, pilgrims will be treated to a complete traditional sadya as part of the annadanam program, marking a significant enhancement to the temple's food donation services.

What's on the Divine Menu?

The elaborate feast will feature a comprehensive spread of traditional Kerala dishes that will satisfy both spiritual and culinary cravings. The meal will include steamed rice, flavorful dal, authentic sambar, mixed vegetable avial, tangy pickles, thoran stir-fry, crispy papadam, and the beloved sweet payasam that completes any traditional sadya.

In a thoughtful detail that enhances the dining experience, the type of payasam served will vary daily, ensuring devotees can enjoy different flavors throughout their pilgrimage period. The entire feast will be served using steel plates and glasses, maintaining both hygiene and environmental consciousness.

Feast Timing and Expected Participation

The sadya annadanam will be available daily during specific hours to accommodate the pilgrimage schedule. Devotees can partake in this blessed meal between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM each day, providing nourishment during the peak afternoon hours when energy levels typically dip.

Currently, approximately 4,000 devotees participate in the daily food donation program at Sabarimala. However, Travancore Devaswom Board president K Jayakumar anticipates this number will increase significantly once the special sadya service begins, as the traditional feast holds great appeal for pilgrims.

A New Approach to Devotee Care

K Jayakumar emphasized that this initiative represents a fundamental shift in how the board approaches devotee services. "This initiative is part of a new approach," the TDB chief stated. "It conveys the message that we consider every devotee visiting Sabarimala. We believe this approach will reflect in all other aspects of Sabarimala."

The announcement comes as the Mandala season pilgrimage enters its second week, with Jayakumar confirming that the pilgrimage is progressing smoothly without any major issues. The introduction of the sadya annadanam is expected to further enhance the spiritual experience for the thousands of devotees making their way to the hill shrine.

This thoughtful gesture by the Travancore Devaswom Board demonstrates their commitment to improving pilgrim facilities while preserving the cultural and spiritual essence of the Sabarimala experience. The traditional sadya not only nourishes the body but also strengthens the spiritual connection for devotees undertaking this sacred journey.
