Varanasi Celebrates Hanuman Jayanti with Grand Religious Events Across the City
The holy city of Varanasi was immersed in devotion and festivity on Thursday as it celebrated Hanuman Jayanti with a series of elaborate religious events organized at various locations. The grand celebration marked the birth of Lord Hanuman, drawing devotees and spiritual leaders from across the region to participate in the sacred observances.
Special Worship and Rituals at Sankatmochan Temple
At the renowned Sankatmochan Temple, the festivities commenced with special adornments, tableau displays, aarti ceremonies, and worship dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The morning began with a melodious shehnai recital, setting a divine tone for the day. This was followed by Rudrabhishek performed by Brahmins, recitations of Shri Ramcharit Manas, Shri Sitaram Sankirtan, Ramarchapujan, and the recitation of Sundarkand from Shri Ramcharit Manas.
A sankirtan program by the kirtan mandalis of the Ramakrishna Mission added to the spiritual ambiance. The temple also hosted an Akhand Paath of Ramcharit Manas by Ramayana mandalis, ensuring continuous devotional readings throughout the celebration.
Grand Dhwaj Yatra Organized by Shri Hanumat Seva Samiti
A highlight of the celebration was the Dhwaj Yatra organized by Shri Hanumat Seva Samiti from Nevada. The yatra began at Bhikhaaripur Tiraha, where 11 Brahmins performed worship of Ram Darbar on a magnificent 60-foot-long chariot-vehicle and of Hanuman enshrined in a palanquin. The energetic beats of over 200 damrus and the thundering sounds of dhol-nagaras infused immense energy among the devotees, creating a vibrant and spirited atmosphere.
After an aarti ceremony by guests at the main office located in Nevada, the yatra proceeded towards Sankat Mochan Darbar. In this procession, 1,100 devotees marched proudly, carrying 'gada' (mace)—the symbolic weapon of Lord Hanuman—demonstrating their devotion and strength.
Cultural Performances and Attractions During the Yatra
The yatra featured several captivating cultural performances and displays. The 'Nari Vahini' of Koniya office showcased their prowess through impressive sword and staff demonstrations, highlighting martial skills. The Aghori contingent from Nevada, a replica of the Garbhagriha from Janakinagar, and the Tahalka Dhamaal Band from Madhya Pradesh via Bajardeehan remained central attractions, drawing crowds with their unique presentations.
A special tableau by Abhiyan Pavitra Kashi particularly captured everyone's attention, conveying a powerful message about preserving the sanctity and purity of the city. The event was graced by the presence of numerous saints and mahants, who blessed the proceedings and added to the spiritual significance of the celebration.
