LPG Price Surge Forces Bengaluru Kerala Restaurants to Adapt Vishu Sadhya Offerings
As Vishu approaches this Wednesday, Kerala restaurants across Bengaluru are experiencing consistent demand for the traditional festive feast known as sadhya. However, the ongoing surge in LPG prices is compelling these eateries to reconsider their strategies, resulting in marginal price increases, reduced menu options, and constrained availability. Despite these challenges, establishments are making concerted efforts to maintain the celebratory atmosphere for their patrons.
Restaurant Responses to the LPG Crisis
A staff member from a restaurant located in HSR Layout Sector 1 explained, "We have implemented a price increase of Rs 50 per sadhya due to the LPG crisis. Our intention is to avoid overburdening customers, so we have kept this adjustment minimal. Typically, our sadhya is priced around Rs 799; it has now been raised to Rs 850."
In contrast, a manager at N'Chief, which operates three branches throughout the city, stated, "We have maintained our original pricing, but we are offering the sadhya exclusively at two branches because of the rise in LPG costs and cylinder scarcity. Interestingly, we have not observed any decline in bookings; demand remains steady."
Menu Adjustments and Pricing Strategies
Mohit, proprietor of Kottayam The Restaurant in HSR Layout Sector 4, shared his approach: "Due to the LPG issue, we have opted to remove two to three items from the menu, including a curry and a pickle. Simultaneously, to alleviate customer burden, we plan to reduce the price by at least Rs 100, setting each serving at Rs 700."
While some restaurants are listing sadhya between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 on food delivery platforms, others have refrained from increasing rates. Additionally, a few eateries are restricting service to specific time slots for limited hours to manage operational constraints.
