Manali–Leh Highway: A Legendary Challenge
Few road journeys in India enjoy the legendary status of the Manali–Leh Highway. Stretching through the Himalayas, this route delivers landscapes that seem almost unreal — snow-covered mountains, barren valleys and dramatic high-altitude deserts. But behind all that beauty lies a demanding drive. Travellers encounter rough sections, water crossings created by melting snow, changing road conditions and long distances without major fuel stations or facilities. The route also passes through high-altitude terrain where lower oxygen levels can affect travellers physically. Weather conditions can shift quickly, turning sunny stretches into difficult driving conditions. For experienced drivers, it is one of India's greatest adventures; for beginners, it can quickly become overwhelming.
