Air India Announces Code-Share Partnership With airBaltic

In a significant move to bolster its European connectivity, Air India has officially entered into a strategic codeshare partnership with the Latvian national carrier, airBaltic. This collaboration, announced on Thursday, is set to significantly enhance travel options for passengers flying between India and key destinations across Europe.

Strategic Partnership Details and Initial Phase

The newly forged agreement is structured to unfold in two distinct phases. The initial phase, which is already active, allows Air India to place its marketing code on airBaltic-operated flights connecting Riga, the capital of Latvia, to 19 prominent European cities. This means passengers can now book these connecting flights directly through Air India's reservation systems.

Key European destinations covered under this first phase include major hubs and leisure spots such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Helsinki, Munich, Paris, Prague, Vienna, and Zurich, among others. This integration effectively extends Air India's network reach deep into the European continent via the Riga gateway.

Future Expansion and Enhanced Connectivity

The second phase of the partnership, slated to commence later this year, will introduce reciprocal benefits. During this stage, airBaltic will place its marketing code on Air India's non-stop flights operating between Delhi and London. This reciprocal arrangement will offer airBaltic's customers seamless access to the Indian market via one of the busiest air corridors in the world.

Campbell Wilson, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, emphasized the strategic value of this alliance. He stated that the partnership with airBaltic aligns perfectly with Air India's ongoing transformation and network expansion strategy. It provides Indian travelers with convenient single-ticket access to a wider array of European destinations beyond the airline's own direct routes.

Martin Gauss, the President and CEO of airBaltic, highlighted the mutual benefits, noting that this codeshare opens the vibrant Indian market to his airline's customers. For travelers, the primary advantages are streamlined travel planning and smoother connections. They can book complex itineraries involving both airlines on a single ticket, with through check-in for baggage and guaranteed connections, reducing travel hassle.

This partnership is a clear component of Air India's ambitious growth plan under the Tata Group ownership.
