China has expressed its hope that the United States will exercise extra prudence in handling Taiwan-related issues, emphasizing their far-reaching implications. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, conveyed this message following a phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Key Points from the Wang-Rubio Call
In a post on X, Ambassador Xu Feihong stated that Chinese FM Wang Yi held a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Wang emphasized that China and the US need to remove disruptions, overcome obstacles, and stay firmly on the right course toward building a constructive bilateral relationship of strategic stability.
Xu further elaborated that both sides should always uphold the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, translating the important consensus reached by the two heads of state into specific policies and practical measures. He added that both sides need to expand the list of cooperation, shorten the list of problems, and manage all kinds of risks. The Taiwan question, he stressed, has far-reaching implications, and it is hoped that the US side will handle Taiwan-related issues with extra prudence.
US State Department Response
Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Tommy Pigott, issued a statement noting that Secretary Rubio discussed the importance of building a constructive relationship of strategic stability based on fairness and reciprocity, as outlined by President Trump.
Taiwan's Drone Defense Strategy
Meanwhile, Raymond Greene, director of the American Institute in Taiwan and the de facto US ambassador, spoke at a forum on drones in Taichung, central Taiwan, on Thursday. According to Al Jazeera, Greene stated that Taiwan needs a "hornet's nest" of drones to help deter conflict and provide security. He noted that drones represented a "game-changing opportunity" to enhance Taiwan's security and reinforce peace in the broader region.
This development underscores the ongoing strategic dialogue between the US and China, with Taiwan remaining a central point of contention. The call between Wang Yi and Marco Rubio reflects efforts to manage bilateral tensions and establish a stable framework for future relations.
