India delivered a scathing rebuke to Pakistan at the United Nations, likening the country to a 'Frankenstein state' that is shocked when its own monster turns against it. The sharp remarks came during a UN Security Council debate on counter-terrorism, where India's Permanent Representative forcefully condemned Pakistan's state-sponsored terrorism.
India's Strong Response
The Indian envoy did not mince words, stating that Pakistan has long nurtured terrorist groups as instruments of state policy. 'We have a Frankenstein state in our neighborhood that created monsters and is now shocked when those monsters bite back,' the Indian representative said, drawing a clear parallel to Pakistan's support for militant outfits.
India's statement highlighted the irony of Pakistan seeking international sympathy while being the epicenter of global terrorism. The envoy pointed to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the Pathankot air base assault as examples of Pakistan's complicity in cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan's Isolation at UN
The Indian retort came after Pakistan attempted to raise the Kashmir issue during the debate. However, India's sharp response effectively isolated Pakistan, with many UN member states supporting India's stance on combating terrorism without discrimination.
India reiterated its commitment to fighting terrorism in all forms and called for concrete action against terrorist safe havens. The envoy urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions, warning that the monster of terrorism could eventually consume its creator.
The exchange underscores the deep-rooted tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, with India increasingly taking a hardline stance at international forums against Pakistan's alleged support for terrorism.
