Jaishankar meets South Korean FM in Seoul
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in Seoul on June 24, 2026, to discuss deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The meeting followed up on the outcomes of the recent visit of South Korean President Jaemyung Lee to India.
Review of bilateral cooperation
During the discussions, the two ministers reviewed cooperation across various sectors including political, shipbuilding, trade, investments, defence, technology, clean energy, culture and people-to-people ties. Jaishankar described the meeting as productive and highlighted the comprehensive nature of the partnership.
In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar stated: "Pleased to meet @FMChoHyun of RoK in Seoul today. Our discussions followed upon the outcomes of recent visit of President @Jaemyung_Lee to India. We reviewed our cooperation across political, shipbuilding, trade, investments, defence, technology, clean energy, culture and P2P…"
Two-day visit to South Korea
Jaishankar is currently in South Korea on a two-day visit, which is the second leg of an ongoing foreign tour after having visited Mongolia. The visit underscores India's commitment to strengthening ties with key partners in East Asia as part of its Act East policy.
The meeting comes amid growing strategic convergence between India and South Korea, particularly in areas such as defence manufacturing, technology collaboration, and clean energy transition. Both countries have been working to enhance trade and investment flows, with bilateral trade expected to cross $30 billion in the coming years.
