Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to India, marking her first trip to the country since taking office. The Japanese Cabinet Public Relations Officer expressed gratitude for the warm reception in a post on X, stating, "Our heartfelt thanks for your warm welcome. We are very much excited to be visiting India!"
Warm Welcome and High-Level Meetings
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, received Takaichi upon her arrival at Palam Technical Airport in New Delhi. Singh described the occasion as a privilege, highlighting the significance of the visit in the context of growing strategic partnership between the two nations. He noted that her engagements include the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Takaichi, expressing delight at hosting her for the first time. In a post on X, Modi said, "A very warm welcome to India, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. We are delighted to host you on your first visit to India and I look forward to our wide-ranging discussions tomorrow that will further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership." He added that joint efforts would continue to advance peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
Strategic Collaboration Amid Global Uncertainties
Speaking before her departure, Takaichi emphasized the growing importance of collaboration with India amid rising uncertainties in the international arena. "Amid growing uncertainty in the international situation, the importance of collaboration with India, which shares fundamental values and strategic interests, is only increasing," she said.
She outlined three key areas for concrete cooperation with Prime Minister Modi: deepening the strategic cooperative relationship between Japan and India, promoting cooperation in economic security, and fostering collaboration between companies of both countries toward investment and innovation. Takaichi stressed that by uniting government and private sectors, she aims to broaden the scope of Japan-India cooperation.
Three-Day Visit Agenda
Takaichi's visit from July 1 to July 3 was at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. The agenda includes the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, where leaders are expected to discuss bilateral and regional issues, economic security, and investment opportunities. The visit underscores the strengthening of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with both nations committed to advancing peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
