Modi Extends Warm Welcome to Japanese Counterpart
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her first official visit to India, expressing delight at hosting her. The visit, from July 1 to 3, is at Modi's invitation for the 16th India-Japan annual summit.
In a post on X, Modi said, "Sanae Takaichi, welcome to India. I heartily welcome you on your first visit to India. I look forward to exchanging views on a wide range of fields tomorrow to further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership."
Summit Agenda: Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The annual summit is a key mechanism for the two leaders to review and strengthen cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, defense, technology, and people-to-people ties. The partnership has grown significantly in recent years, with both nations sharing strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the summit will cover discussions on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including maritime security, supply chain resilience, and cooperation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
Strategic Significance of the Visit
Takaichi's visit underscores the deepening ties between India and Japan, both members of the Quad alongside Australia and the United States. The two countries have been working closely on infrastructure projects in Africa and the Indo-Pacific, as well as on clean energy and digital public goods.
"India and Japan share a vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific," a senior official stated. "This summit will further operationalize our shared goals."
The summit is expected to culminate in the signing of several agreements and the issuance of a joint vision statement outlining future areas of cooperation.
