A delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha on Saturday and submitted proposals aimed at making the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll cleaner, more transparent, and credible.
Three Memorandums Submitted
The delegation submitted three separate memorandums to the CEO for immediate consideration. The first proposal urged the CEO to send an immediate acknowledgment message to voters after digital documentation of enumeration forms is completed through the booth-level officers’ app. The BJD stated that such confirmation would help voters know that their forms had been received and registered.
Additional ID Documents Requested
In the second memorandum, the party requested that PAN cards, driving licences, and ration cards be accepted as additional indicative documents during the claims and objections phase. This would enable more eligible voters to prove their identity and eligibility, potentially expanding the voter base.
WhatsApp Groups for Coordination
The third proposal recommended the creation of dedicated WhatsApp groups at suitable levels, involving election officers and representatives of recognised political parties. According to the BJD, these groups would ensure coordination, quick grievance resolution, and smooth communication during the revision drives.
The delegation emphasized that these measures would enhance the efficiency and inclusiveness of the electoral roll revision process. The CEO has not yet issued a formal response to the proposals.
