Elections for Four Municipal Bodies in Punjab Scheduled for July 5
The Punjab State Election Commission announced on Saturday that elections for four municipal bodies, including the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation, will be held on July 5, 2026. The announcement was made through an official release, which confirmed that voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Counting of votes will occur on the same day after polling concludes.
Details of the Poll-Bound Constituencies
The elections will cover the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation, the municipal councils of Guru Har Sahai in Ferozepur district and Jalalabad in Fazilka district, and the nagar panchayat of Mamdot in Ferozepur district. The commission stated that all arrangements have been made to conduct these elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Model Code of Conduct Comes into Force
With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into immediate effect within the jurisdiction of the poll-bound constituencies. This code regulates the conduct of political parties and candidates to ensure a level playing field.
Nomination Schedule and Key Dates
According to the election schedule released by the commission, the period for filing nomination papers will begin on June 22. The last date for filing nominations is June 25, followed by scrutiny of nominations on June 26. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 27. The commission emphasized that all necessary measures are in place for a smooth electoral process.
