Anganwadi Workers Protest BLO Duty in Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ Association staged a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Wednesday, demanding exemption from being assigned as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for election duties. The workers submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar, highlighting their concerns over additional workload and health issues.

Key Demands

The association argued that Anganwadi workers already manage nutrition, health, and education programs for children and mothers, leaving them with little time for election-related tasks. They cited physical exhaustion and lack of adequate compensation as major reasons for seeking exemption.

Protest Details

Hundreds of workers gathered at Freedom Park, holding placards and chanting slogans. The protest was peaceful, and the memorandum outlined specific requests, including removal of BLO duties and better working conditions.

Response from Election Officials

The association plans to escalate the issue if no action is taken before the next election cycle.
