The Bengaluru traffic police have reviewed proposals for a flyover and a skywalk in Banashankari, deciding to examine both projects together to ensure an integrated approach to traffic management. The decision was made during a meeting held on July 8, 2026, chaired by senior traffic police officials.
Proposals Reviewed in Joint Meeting
During the meeting, officials from the traffic police, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), and other stakeholders discussed the feasibility and design of the two infrastructure projects. The flyover is intended to ease vehicular congestion on the busy Banashankari stretch, while the skywalk aims to improve pedestrian safety and reduce jaywalking. According to a traffic police spokesperson, “Examining both plans together will help us create a cohesive solution that addresses the needs of both vehicles and pedestrians.”
Expected Benefits and Challenges
The combined examination is expected to identify potential conflicts and synergies between the two structures. For instance, the flyover pillars could be used to support the skywalk in certain areas, reducing costs and construction time. However, challenges such as utility relocation and traffic diversion during construction will also be assessed. The BBMP has been asked to submit a detailed project report within three months, including cost estimates and a timeline.
Residents of Banashankari have long demanded better infrastructure to tackle daily traffic jams and accidents. A local resident, Ravi Kumar, said, “We hope this integrated approach will finally bring relief. The current situation is chaotic, with vehicles and pedestrians competing for space.” The traffic police have assured that public feedback will be considered before final approval.
