The Begusarai Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step towards transforming urban management and public safety with the launch of a comprehensive, CCTV-based monitoring system. This initiative is designed to tackle persistent issues of hygiene, traffic management, and crime across the city.
A Network of 317 Eyes for a Cleaner, Safer City
The newly operational control centre is powered by 317 high-resolution CCTV devices installed at 98 strategic locations throughout Begusarai. Municipal Commissioner Somesh Bahadur Mathur detailed that these cameras will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To ensure uninterrupted surveillance, the system is equipped with a robust four-hour battery backup. A notable feature is the deployment of 32 cameras capable of providing 360-degree coverage, enabling intensive monitoring of key areas.
Multi-Pronged Impact: From Garbage to Crime
The primary objective of this surveillance network is to monitor hygiene and strictly curb the menace of littering and illegal garbage dumping. Former mayor Sanjay Singh, who congratulated the corporation on the move, explained that the cameras will capture clear images of individuals discarding waste on roads or in public places. "This will help identify habitual offenders and penalise them to curb such acts," he stated.
Beyond cleanliness, the system's benefits extend to law enforcement and traffic regulation. The live feeds will be accessible to the district police and administration, which already have their own control rooms. This integrated network will assist in:

- Regulating and ensuring smooth traffic flow on congested city streets.
Public Hope for Safer Roads
The launch has sparked hope among residents for enhanced road safety. Shivani, a teacher from the Harrakh locality, shared a personal connection to the issue, revealing that a friend was recently severely injured due to rash bike driving. She expressed optimism that the enhanced surveillance would help curb this menace, along with the problem of street snatching. "I hope the move will also help in curbing the snatching menace on the roads," she added, highlighting the community's expectations for safer public spaces.
