The Begusarai Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step towards modern urban management by launching a comprehensive, CCTV-based monitoring system. This initiative is designed to enhance public hygiene, deter littering, and bolster overall city surveillance across Begusarai.
A Network of Eyes for a Cleaner City
The newly operational system is a technological leap for the city's administration. It comprises 317 high-resolution CCTV devices strategically installed at 98 key locations. These cameras are connected to a central control room, where feeds are monitored continuously. Municipal Commissioner Somesh Bahadur Mathur emphasized that the devices will operate 24×7 and are equipped with a four-hour battery backup to ensure uninterrupted surveillance. A notable feature is the deployment of 32 cameras capable of 360-degree coverage, allowing for intensive monitoring of specific areas.
Multi-Pronged Benefits: From Garbage to Crime
The primary objective is to track hygiene violations and curb the menace of littering. Former mayor Sanjay Singh, who congratulated the corporation on the move, pointed out that the cameras can now capture clear images of individuals dumping garbage on roads or in public spaces. "This will help identify habitual offenders and penalise them to curb such acts," he stated. The system is expected to act as a strong deterrent against such anti-social behavior.
Beyond sanitation, the surveillance network integrates with broader city management and security goals. The feeds will assist the district police office and administration, which have their own control rooms, in crime detection and monitoring. "These additional cameras will help police monitor crimes and identify criminals," added Singh. The system is also geared towards improving traffic flow and regulating movement on busy city streets, addressing a common urban challenge.
Public Hope for Safer Roads
The launch has sparked hope among residents for improved road safety. Shivani, a teacher from the Harrakh locality, shared a personal incident where a friend was severely injured due to rash bike driving. She expressed optimism that the enhanced CCTV coverage would help curb this menace. "I hope the move will also help in curbing the snatching menace on the roads," she added, highlighting the public's expectation for the technology to create a safer environment for all citizens.
This initiative marks a forward-looking approach by the Begusarai Municipal Corporation, leveraging technology to tackle persistent civic issues ranging from public cleanliness to traffic management and law enforcement support.
