Modernisation and upgradation work at Buxar railway station, under the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR), has been intensified by the Railways. The project is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 26.35 crore.
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme Drives Redevelopment
According to Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Abhinav Siddarth, the redevelopment is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which aims to transform stations nationwide with improved infrastructure and passenger amenities. Buxar, a historic town known for the Battle of Buxar in 1764 between the British and the Mughals, is among the stations selected for comprehensive redevelopment.
The project focuses on enhancing passenger convenience while preserving the station's importance as a key rail hub in the region and its historical significance. As part of the work, the station is receiving a renewed façade and upgraded building, giving it a modern and aesthetically appealing look. The circulating area is also being improved to ensure smoother movement of passengers and vehicles, Siddarth added.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Platform Extensions
Several infrastructure upgrades are underway, including laying of tracks and extension of platforms to accommodate trains of up to 24 coaches. A quick watering facility is also being developed to enable faster servicing of trains.
To improve safety and efficiency, the station is being equipped with 24x7 CCTV and high-definition cameras at strategic locations. Passenger amenities, including upgraded unreserved ticketing system (UTS) and passenger reservation system (PRS) counters, are also being enhanced.
Expected Benefits and Timeline
“The redevelopment work is progressing rapidly and is expected to improve the travel experience. Once completed, the upgraded Buxar station will offer amenities comparable to major railway stations across the country,” the senior DCM said. The modernisation aims to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers while retaining the station's historical identity.
