Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inaugurated a Rs 7.6-crore multi-storeyed car parking facility near the historic Auckland tunnel in Shimla. The facility has a parking capacity of 145 vehicles and is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Government's Urban Development Priorities
Sukhu stated that providing modern civic amenities and ensuring planned urban development remain key priorities of his government. He emphasised that improving traffic management and creating adequate public infrastructure are top focus areas. The new parking slot will help decongest major roads in and around the Auckland tunnel area, reduce roadside parking, and facilitate smooth vehicular movement.
Addressing Peak Season Challenges
The Chief Minister noted that the rapid increase in the number of vehicles has posed considerable challenges to traffic regulation and parking management, especially during the peak tourist season. "The state government is undertaking various infrastructure initiatives aimed at making the state capital more accessible, organised and commuter-friendly," he said.
Sukhu reiterated the government's resolve to create modern facilities that cater to the needs of both residents and the large number of tourists visiting Shimla throughout the year. He said the state is pursuing a comprehensive approach towards urban development, focusing on sustainable infrastructure, efficient public services, and improved quality of life for citizens.
Dignitaries Present at Inauguration
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, councillors, and other prominent persons were present on the occasion.
