SDM Sanjeev Thakur has issued a directive to all crusher units operating along the banks of the Beas river and its tributaries in Jaisinghpur subdivision to relocate their machinery and labourers to safer locations before the onset of the monsoon season. The order aims to prevent loss of life and property during the rains, when water levels in rivers and seasonal streams can rise suddenly.
Background of the Directive
Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hem Raj Bairwa had previously issued similar instructions. The SDM's warning comes as a proactive measure to mitigate risks associated with flash floods and sudden increases in water levels, which are common in riverbeds and streamside areas where many crusher units are located.
According to SDM Thakur, any negligence in complying with these directions will be the sole responsibility of the crusher owners. He stated that if any untoward incident or accident occurs during the monsoon due to failure to follow the prescribed safety measures, the concerned crusher unit and its owner would be held accountable.
Legal Consequences for Non-Compliance
The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against violators under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. Such action may include the sealing of crusher units found operating in violation of the safety guidelines. The move is aimed at preventing loss of life and property during the monsoon season.
Impact on Local Operations
Crusher operators in the region, particularly those along the Beas river in Jaisinghpur subdivision, are now required to shift their equipment and workers to safer locations. This directive affects multiple units that operate along the river and its rivulets, which are prone to sudden flooding during the monsoon.
