Delhi Government Launches Cashless Medical Scheme for Construction Workers
The Delhi government has announced a new cashless medical facility for construction workers registered with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The scheme aims to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage, including over 1,400 medical procedures, at more than 100 empaneled hospitals across the national capital. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 10 lakh registered construction workers and their families.

Under the scheme, workers can avail cashless treatment for a wide range of medical conditions, including major surgeries, cardiac procedures, cancer treatment, and organ transplants. The coverage extends to pre-existing diseases and includes hospitalization, diagnostics, and follow-up care. According to a Delhi government official, "The scheme removes the financial burden from workers, ensuring they can focus on recovery without worrying about costs."
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, workers must be registered with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and possess a valid registration card. Their family members, including spouse, children, and dependent parents, are also covered. The scheme is applicable for treatments at government and private hospitals empaneled under the Delhi government's health schemes.
How to Avail the Facility
Beneficiaries need to show their registration card at any empaneled hospital to receive cashless treatment. The hospital will verify eligibility through the board's database. For emergency cases, treatment can be initiated immediately, with documentation completed later. The Delhi government has also set up a helpline number for queries and assistance.

A worker from the construction site in Dwarka said, "This is a great relief. Earlier, we had to spend from our pockets or go without treatment. Now we can access quality care for free."
