Delhi Government Initiates Special LPG Distribution Camps for Migrant Laborers
In a proactive move to bolster support for migrant workers, the Delhi government has announced the organization of special camps aimed at ensuring effective last-mile delivery of LPG cylinders. This initiative comes in response to a significant increase in allocation approved by the central government, targeting areas with high concentrations of migrant laborers.
Enhanced Allocation and Distribution Strategy
The central government has sanctioned a 100% increase in the allocation of 5kg free trade LPG (FTL) cylinders under the 'migrant labourer' category. As a result, the Delhi government has doubled the daily availability of these cylinders from 684 to 1,368, as per an order dated April 7. This substantial boost is designed to provide wider access and more equitable distribution of essential cooking fuel among migrant workers across the capital.
To facilitate this enhanced distribution, district magistrates have been directed to set up special camps in coordination with oil marketing companies (OMCs). These camps will complement the existing network operated by OMCs through authorized LPG distributors, ensuring that eligible migrant workers can conveniently procure cylinders upon payment and submission of Aadhaar as identity proof.
Operational Framework and Oversight
The special camps are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve accessibility and timely availability of LPG for migrant workers. District enforcement teams will play a crucial role in this initiative by conducting demand assessments and providing oversight to ensure the distribution process is orderly, transparent, and efficient. Individuals who encounter difficulties in procuring cylinders are encouraged to approach the district magistrate's office for assistance.
