Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor Set for Public Opening on Sunday
In a significant infrastructure milestone, the 82-kilometer Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor will officially open to the public this Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off the inaugural services, marking a transformative leap in urban connectivity for the National Capital Region.
Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Services from Shatabdi Nagar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two key train services from Shatabdi Nagar station. The first is a Namo Bharat train destined for Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, and the second is the Meerut Metro train. Reports indicate that the Prime Minister is likely to take a ride on one of these trains during the inauguration ceremony, underscoring the project's national importance.
Operational Stretch and Station Inaugurations
Currently, a 55-kilometer segment of the RRTS corridor is operational, encompassing 11 stations from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South. Trial runs for the remaining sections were successfully completed in August 2025, paving the way for full corridor functionality. In the Delhi section, the Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station—one of the largest stations, ready since July 2025—will be inaugurated, enhancing passenger capacity and convenience.
Enhanced Frequency and Travel Times
While the present frequency of Namo Bharat trains stands at 15 minutes, this is expected to improve to 10 minutes once the entire corridor becomes fully operational. Commuters will benefit from a swift travel time of approximately 58 minutes from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, significantly reducing intercity travel duration.
Meerut Metro: India's Fastest Metro System
The Meerut Metro segment promises to set new benchmarks in speed and efficiency. With a design speed of 135 kilometers per hour and a maximum operational speed of 120 kilometers per hour, officials have confirmed that it will be the fastest metro system in the country. Operating on a 21-kilometer stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram, the Meerut Metro will serve 12 stations and cover the distance in around 30 minutes, offering unparalleled rapid transit for residents and visitors alike.
This development is poised to revolutionize regional transport, reducing congestion and promoting sustainable mobility across Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
