Campaign to Run from July 11 to 18
A dedicated campaign marking World Population Day will be held from July 11 to 18, during which the Health Department will organize special family planning camps across Jalandhar district, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Garg announced. The initiative aims to promote safe spacing between children and prevent unwanted pregnancies.
Free 'Basket of Choice' for Eligible Couples
The Health Department will distribute a 'basket of choice' containing modern temporary family planning methods, including contraceptives and pills, free of cost at all government health centres. Dr Garg emphasized that maintaining an appropriate gap between births is crucial for the well-being of both mother and child.
Theme and Slogan Highlight Child Spacing
This year's theme is 'Right time and interval between children for the well-being of mother and child and prevention of unwanted pregnancy,' with the slogan 'When there is a right interval between children, the family is healthy and happy.' Dr Garg stated that a safe interval between two children is extremely important for good health outcomes.
Camp Schedule Across District Health Centres
The family planning camps are scheduled as follows: CHC Kartarpur on July 11; PP Unit Civil Hospital Jalandhar on July 13; SDH Phillaur on July 14; CHC Adampur on July 15; PP Unit Civil Hospital Jalandhar on July 16; SDH Nakodar on July 17; and CHC Adampur on July 18. Eligible couples can avail free sterilisation services under expert supervision to limit family size. Dr Garg appealed to people seeking free advice or registration to contact their local ASHA worker, ANM, or nearest government health institution.
Goal: Population Control and Better Living Standards
The main objective of this initiative is to control population growth, improve basic facilities, and raise the standard of living. By keeping family size limited, parents can provide better care, education, and healthcare to their children, according to Dr Garg.
