Goa State Central Library Announces Major Expansion with New Facilities in Baina and Curchorem
The Goa State Central Library is embarking on a significant expansion initiative, with plans to establish new public libraries in Baina and Curchorem. This move aims to enhance access to educational resources and community services across the state.
Baina Library to be Housed in Renovated Ravindra Bhavan
In Baina, the new library will be located within the existing Ravindra Bhavan building. According to Sulaksha Kolmule, curator of the Goa State Central Library, the space will undergo extensive renovations and expansion to transform it into a fully functional public library.
"We are working with the Public Works Department (PWD) to create an optimal space inside Ravindra Bhavan for the library," Kolmule stated. "The design plans for the new space were submitted to them, with estimates and a construction timeline now in progress."
The renovation work is expected to be completed this year, with the library projected to be ready to serve the public by the end of 2026. This timeline ensures that the facility meets all necessary standards for a modern public library.
Curchorem Library to Replace Rented Premises with New Building
In Curchorem, the upcoming government library will replace the current rented premises with a brand-new building. Kolmule indicated that the foundation stone for this project is expected to be laid soon.
"The file for the Curchorem library is in process, and we are looking forward to laying the foundation stone in this financial year itself," Kolmule said. This development marks a significant upgrade from the existing temporary setup, promising improved infrastructure and services for residents.
The expansion of library services in Goa reflects a broader commitment to promoting literacy and community engagement. By establishing these new facilities, the Goa State Central Library aims to provide enhanced access to books, digital resources, and educational programs.
Both projects are part of a strategic effort to decentralize library services and make them more accessible to people in different regions of Goa. The libraries are expected to become hubs for learning, cultural activities, and community gatherings once operational.
