Gujarat's 2027 Census to Launch in Two Phases with Digital Self-Enumeration
The government of Gujarat has announced that the upcoming Population Census 2027 will be conducted in two distinct phases, marking a significant step towards modernizing data collection processes. The first phase, known as house listing operations (HLO), is scheduled to commence in April-May this year, followed by the second phase dedicated to population enumeration.
Digital Innovation in Census Operations
In a groundbreaking move, citizens will have the opportunity to participate actively through a digital self-enumeration facility during the HLO phase. This initiative allows individuals to fill in their information online, aiming to foster greater engagement and make citizens key stakeholders in the census process. The government emphasized that this digital approach is designed to enhance accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in governance.
Key Meeting in Gandhinagar
Chief Secretary M K Das chaired a crucial meeting in Gandhinagar on Tuesday to review the preparations for the census program. He highlighted that the 2027 census is of paramount importance, as the collected statistics will serve as essential benchmarks for policy decisions aimed at comprehensive development across the state. Das underscored the census's role in establishing new standards in digital governance and data-driven planning.
Emphasis on Technology and Accuracy
Director of Census Operations for Gujarat, Sujal Mayatra, noted that the 2027 census is particularly special as it unfolds in an era dominated by technology-enabled governance. The meeting extensively discussed various aspects of the HLO phase, including the preparation of detailed lists of houses, residential units, and households. Additionally, planning, training initiatives, and the implementation of the digital self-enumeration facility were thoroughly reviewed to ensure a smooth and effective rollout.
The introduction of digital tools in the census process is expected to streamline data collection, reduce errors, and provide real-time insights for governmental use. This move aligns with broader efforts to leverage technology for public administration and policy formulation in Gujarat.
