Gujarat Government Announces Major Public Sector Recruitment Drive and Development Initiatives

In a significant announcement made in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Minister Ishwarsinh Patel revealed that the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) has formulated an ambitious plan to make 2.10 lakh appointments over the next decade. This strategic move aims to bolster the state's administrative workforce and enhance public service delivery across various sectors.

Detailed Recruitment Plans and Recent Progress

Providing detailed information in response to a query, Minister Patel elaborated on the GPSC's recent activities. He stated that in the past two years alone, the commission has sought applications for 306 Class 1 and Class 2 positions, which are crucial for senior administrative roles. Furthermore, preliminary and final examinations for 240 of these positions have already been conducted, with eligible candidates set to be called for interviews shortly. This phased approach ensures a systematic and transparent recruitment process, aligning with the state's long-term employment goals.

Unused Government Land to Be Allocated for Municipal Development

In a separate response during the assembly session, the state government disclosed a new policy regarding land allocation. A notification issued earlier this month now permits the government to provide unused land free of cost to municipalities for specific, fixed purposes. This initiative is designed to support urban infrastructure development by allowing municipalities to utilize this land for essential projects such as:

This move is expected to accelerate local governance and improve public amenities in urban areas across Gujarat.

Substantial Budget Allocation to Combat Malnutrition

Addressing a critical health issue, the government informed the assembly that a substantial sum of Rs 1,550.3 crore has been earmarked in the 2025-26 state budget for schemes aimed at reducing malnutrition among children. In reply to a question posed by Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar, officials confirmed that as of December 31, 2025, Rs 554.42 crore had already been utilized for this purpose. This funding underscores the state's commitment to improving child health outcomes and addressing nutritional deficiencies through targeted interventions and welfare programs.

These announcements collectively highlight Gujarat's proactive approach to employment generation, urban development, and public health, as part of its broader governance strategy to foster sustainable growth and social welfare.
