Hyderabad AC Bus Fares Slashed Ahead of Summer Season
In a significant move to ease the burden on commuters during the upcoming summer months, the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a reduction in ticket fares for select air-conditioned bus services operating within Hyderabad. The revised fares, which took effect from Sunday, aim to make travel more affordable and boost ridership as temperatures rise.
Details of the Fare Reduction
Officials clarified that the fare cut applies exclusively to two categories: e-Metro AC and Metro Deluxe AC buses. No other city or intercity services are included in this revised tariff structure, ensuring the benefits are targeted towards specific high-demand routes.
For Metro Deluxe AC buses, the fare has been reduced from Rs 30 to Rs 25 for every four kilometres, representing a Rs 5 decrease per slab. In the e-Metro AC segment, the reduction is more substantial, with fares cut from Rs 35 to Rs 25 for the same distance—a Rs 10 drop per slab. This adjustment is expected to make these services more accessible to a broader range of passengers.
Impact on Commuters and Ridership
The timing of this initiative is strategic, as rising summer temperatures typically lead to an increased preference for air-conditioned travel options. Previously, higher fares had kept average occupancy rates in AC services at around 60%, limiting their usage despite the demand for comfort during hot weather.
With the revised pricing, TGSRTC aims to improve ridership in these two categories, offering commuters a cost-effective alternative to beat the heat. This move not only provides financial relief but also encourages the use of public transport, potentially reducing traffic congestion and environmental impact in the city.
Broader Context and Goals
This fare reduction is part of TGSRTC's efforts to enhance public transportation efficiency and customer satisfaction. By making AC buses more affordable, the corporation hopes to attract more passengers, thereby increasing revenue through higher occupancy rates rather than relying solely on premium pricing.
Commuters in Hyderabad can now enjoy cooler and more comfortable journeys without the strain of high costs, making daily travel more manageable during the peak summer months. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to urban mobility challenges, aligning with broader goals of sustainable and inclusive transport solutions.
