Kolhapur Mayor Announces Massive City-Wide Cleanliness Initiative
In a significant move to enhance urban hygiene and civic order, Kolhapur Mayor Rouparani Nikam has unveiled plans for a mega cleanliness drive titled "My City, My Responsibility." Scheduled for this Friday, the day-long event will mobilize over 4,000 residents alongside officials from the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) in a concerted effort to clean the city and remove encroachments.
Two-Phase Cleanliness and Anti-Encroachment Strategy
Mayor Nikam detailed the operational plan during a press briefing, outlining a structured two-phase approach. The first phase will commence at 7 AM, focusing on the thorough cleaning of main roads and footpaths, coupled with the removal of illegal encroachments obstructing these public spaces. To ensure seamless execution, the mayor has already convened meetings with the anti-encroachment department and city traffic police, coordinating efforts to address these issues effectively.
The second phase will target internal roads within various wards, extending the cleanliness drive to residential and local areas to ensure comprehensive coverage across Kolhapur. This phased strategy aims to systematically tackle urban clutter and enhance accessibility for all citizens.
New Public Toilets for Women and Strict Enforcement Measures
In addition to the cleanliness drive, Mayor Nikam announced the imminent operationalization of four well-equipped public toilets for women in the vicinity of the Mahalaxmi Temple. These facilities are set to become functional within a week, addressing a critical need in high-traffic areas and promoting public health and convenience.
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against civic violations, the mayor declared, "Strict action will be taken against encroachments and illegal works. I am now in action mode for the benefit of the city." This statement underscores her commitment to enforcing regulations and improving urban governance.
Driving Ongoing Projects Forward
Mayor Nikam further highlighted that the overarching goal of this initiative is to accelerate and streamline ongoing municipal projects. By fostering community participation and strengthening administrative coordination, the "My City, My Responsibility" drive seeks to set a precedent for sustainable urban management and citizen engagement in Kolhapur.
