Goa's Canacona Taluka Grapples with Severe LPG Supply Delays
Frustration is mounting among consumers in Canacona taluka, Goa, as they endure prolonged waits for LPG cylinder deliveries, sparking calls for an increase in supply agencies to address the ongoing crisis. The taluka currently relies on just two LPG dealers, one of whom has been operating for over two decades, but this limited infrastructure is proving inadequate to meet local demand.
Residents Voice Their Struggles with Extended Delays
Natividade D’Sa, a local resident, shared her distressing experience, noting that her LPG supplier initially promised delivery within 25 days of booking. "It’s been 43 days, and I’m still waiting," she lamented. Her situation is not isolated; several senior citizens in the area are facing similar hardships, finding it increasingly difficult to make the arduous 14-kilometer trip to the LPG godown, often returning empty-handed due to stock shortages.
Impact on Vulnerable Populations and Remote Areas
Abhay Dhuri, another senior citizen, emphasized that the lack of distributors exacerbates the problem, particularly for those living in interior regions. "Had there been more distributors, things would have been different," he stated, pointing out that consumers in remote areas are the worst affected by these supply chain disruptions. The scarcity not only inconveniences daily life but also poses significant challenges for elderly individuals who rely on timely deliveries for their cooking needs.
Dealer Perspectives on the Supply Shortage
Pradip Prabhudessai, an LPG dealer in Canacona, acknowledged the ongoing LPG shortage but highlighted the strain on dealers as well. "There has been an LPG shortage, but we have been facing the brunt of it with angry customers day in and day out," he explained. This statement underscores the broader systemic issues within the supply network, where limited agencies struggle to manage customer expectations amid resource constraints.
The collective outcry from residents and dealers alike signals an urgent need for regulatory intervention and infrastructure expansion to ensure reliable LPG access in Canacona taluka.
