The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has given the green light to civic development projects totaling Rs 169 crore during a meeting chaired by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal at the Smart City office on Tuesday. The funds have been allocated under the 15th Finance Commission as 'infrastructure funds'. Officials confirmed that the civic body has received Rs 169.4 crore, with Rs 99.1 crore designated for new initiatives.
Key Projects Approved
A modern library is planned in Jankipuram Sector F near the Engineering College, with a budget of Rs 12 crore. It will feature separate sections for children, senior citizens, and students preparing for competitive exams, along with a public reading area and a bank branch.
The corporation also sanctioned Rs 50 crore for road and drainage improvements, Rs 20 crore for constructing municipal schools, and another Rs 20 crore for community centers, welfare halls, and Utsav Vatika facilities. Additionally, Rs 10 crore was allocated for a new central workshop and RR office in Sarvodaya Nagar.
Beautification and Environmental Measures
For beautification, Rs 12 crore will be spent on parks, including Laxman Park and Shaheed Park. Separate allocations of Rs 10 crore each were made for vending zones and the development of parking, beautification, and sports facilities under flyovers.
Under the 2025-26 air quality action plan, projects worth Rs 8.6 crore were approved to operate 10 mechanized road-sweeping machines and implement edge-to-edge road construction to curb dust pollution.
