Lucknow traffic police have intensified enforcement with a special drive that resulted in more than 5,500 challans being issued for various traffic violations. Officials confirmed that the highest number of violations, after helmet offences, were related to illegal parking, with 3,460 challans issued against vehicles obstructing roads and public spaces across the city. Traffic police stated that indiscriminate parking remains a primary cause of congestion in busy market areas and key intersections.
Key Violations Targeted
The drive also saw 703 challans issued for High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) violations. In addition, police cracked down on dangerous wrong-side driving, issuing 521 challans. Officials noted that wrong-side driving continues to be a major contributor to accidents and near-miss incidents on city roads.
Modified Silencers and Drunk Driving
Action was also taken against motorcycles fitted with modified silencers, with traffic police issuing 94 challans for such vehicles. Furthermore, 17 motorists were booked for drunken driving after being found under the influence of alcohol during checking drives conducted at various locations in the city.
Police Statement
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Raveena Tyagi, said the campaign was launched to improve road discipline, reduce accidents, and ensure smoother traffic movement across Lucknow. She added that similar drives will continue in the coming days to sustain the momentum.
