Mandya District Intensifies Fire Emergency Preparedness for Approaching Summer Season
As summer approaches and temperatures are set to soar, the Mandya district administration has significantly enhanced its preparedness to tackle fire emergencies. The administration is strengthening infrastructure and response systems comprehensively across both urban and rural areas of the district.
Modern Equipment and Enhanced Operational Efficiency
The fire and emergency services department has inducted new fire engines equipped with state-of-the-art firefighting systems. These vehicles feature higher water storage capacity and advanced rescue tools, which are designed to substantially boost operational efficiency during critical situations.
All fire stations across every taluk in Mandya have been placed on high alert. Personnel are actively conducting regular mock drills and extensive public awareness programs in anticipation of the peak summer season. This proactive approach aims to ensure readiness and community engagement.
Record of Safety Demonstrations and Rescue Operations
District Fire Officer B M Raghavendra provided detailed statistics to highlight the department's efforts. Last year alone, the department conducted over 440 fire safety demonstrations at schools, colleges, institutions, and various public locations. These initiatives focused on spreading awareness about preventive measures to mitigate fire risks.
"We received 109 rescue calls and successfully saved 29 human lives and over 10 animals through timely intervention," Raghavendra stated. In addition to rescue operations, the district responded to 756 fire calls, resulting in the protection of property valued at more than Rs 14.8 crore.
Infrastructure Expansion and Strategic Deployment
Currently, each taluk in Mandya is equipped with two well-maintained fire engines to guarantee prompt emergency responses. The department is expecting three additional fire engines soon, which will be strategically deployed to Srirangapatana, Mandya, and Maddur taluks. This deployment is intended to further reinforce the district's firefighting capacity.
Furthermore, the department has proposed establishing four new fire stations at key locations: Bellur Cross in Nagamangala taluk, Koppa and KM Doddi in Maddur taluk, and Chinkurli in Pandavapura taluk. Once these proposals receive approval, the new stations are expected to dramatically reduce response times in areas identified as particularly vulnerable.
Focus on High-Risk Taluks During Summer
Among the seven taluks within Mandya district, Malavalli, KR Pete, Pandavapura, and Mandya are classified as the most sensitive during the summer months. These areas are prone to frequent wildfire incidents, making the enhanced preparedness measures critically important for safeguarding lives and property.
The comprehensive strategy includes continuous monitoring, community outreach, and infrastructure upgrades to ensure that Mandya is fully equipped to handle any fire-related emergencies as temperatures rise across the region.
