MCG Greenlights Major Infrastructure Push with Rs 282 Crore Project Approvals

In a significant move to bolster urban infrastructure, the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has given its nod to 45 projects totaling Rs 282 crore. The approvals, granted on Friday, prioritize road development, with more than 70% of the allocated funds directed towards construction, repair, and maintenance of roads throughout the city. This initiative comes in response to persistent resident complaints about deteriorating road conditions and the short lifespan of recent repairs, often highlighted on social media and public grievance portals.

Key Road Projects Receive Substantial Funding

Among the major approvals, several high-value road projects stand out. The committee cleared road construction in Saraswati Enclave at an estimated cost of Rs 9.7 crore, while the laying of bituminous concrete roads in Mayfield Garden will require Rs 6.2 crore. Additionally, the reconstruction of roads in South City-2 was approved with a budget of Rs 8.3 crore.

Model road developments also feature prominently in the approvals. A model road stretching from the Delhi border at Bijwasan to Ram Chowk in Palam Vihar has been sanctioned for Rs 9.1 crore. The highest-value project in this category is the construction of a model road in Daultabad, allocated Rs 9.9 crore.

Further road-related works include the recarpeting of roads with bituminous concrete and replacement of sidewalk tiles in blocks D, E, F, and Residency Green of Greenwood City, costing Rs 3.3 crore. The panel also approved two separate allocations of Rs 9.5 crore each for repair and maintenance works in New Gurgaon and Old Gurgaon, aimed at addressing daily complaints from residents.

Civic Infrastructure Upgrades Complement Road Focus

While roads dominate the project list, the remaining 13 approvals focus on essential civic infrastructure, including water supply, sewerage, and urban amenities. Water supply projects and infrastructure upgrades are planned for areas such as Sector 40, with a budget of Rs 4 crore, and Dhankot village, allocated Rs 6.7 crore. These initiatives involve pipeline laying, boosting stations, and underground water storage to mitigate shortages in various parts of the city.

Sewerage and drainage works will be undertaken in Narsingpur along NH8 at Rs 9 crore and Saraswati Enclave at Rs 8.9 crore, among other locations. Civic infrastructure projects also encompass market redevelopment in Sector 31, public utility upgrades, and parking facilities in Sector 45. Beautification and public amenities efforts include the improvement of public spaces in Jharsa and the development of secondary waste collection points in Bajghera at Rs 5.3 crore and Bhondsi Road at Rs 2.9 crore.

Officials noted that these projects are designed to complement road upgrades by strengthening core infrastructure, though their share in the overall budget remains lower compared to road works.

Leadership Emphasizes Sustainable Development and Timely Execution

Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra emphasized MCG's commitment to balanced and sustainable urban development. "MCG is dedicated to providing better basic amenities to residents through these projects, which will significantly strengthen the city's infrastructure," she stated.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya highlighted the resident-centric approach behind the approvals. "The approved projects have been prepared based on the needs of residents and suggestions received from public representatives. All works will be completed in a timely manner to ensure people benefit at the earliest," he assured.

This comprehensive infrastructure push aims to address long-standing issues in Gurgaon, enhancing livability and connectivity for its growing population.
