Royal Family Grants Parking Permission

In a significant move to assist the district administration, the Mysuru royal family has agreed to allow the use of Lalitha Mahal Palace grounds for vehicle parking during the upcoming Ashadha celebrations. The decision aims to improve crowd control atop the Chamundi Hills, where the famous Chamundeshwari Temple is located.

Pramoda Devi Wadiyar's Letter

The royal family matriarch, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, confirmed the permission in a letter to Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikantha Reddy. She stated, “I am happy to permit the use of the grounds for vehicle parking for the required period to facilitate ease and convenience of devotees for Goddess Chamundeshwari Temple visit atop Chamundi Hills. I trust that the necessary arrangements will be made to ensure the orderly management and maintenance of the premises during its use.”

Ashadha Celebrations Timeline

This year, the Ashadha celebrations commence on July 17. During the Ashadha period, particularly on Fridays and weekends, the palace grounds will serve as a parking area for devotees' vehicles and as a temporary stand for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses. These buses will ferry devotees to the temple, reducing traffic congestion on the hills.

Impact on Crowd Management

The district administration had been seeking alternative parking spaces to manage the large influx of devotees during the festival. The royal family's decision provides a crucial solution, enabling better traffic flow and safety. The grounds can accommodate hundreds of vehicles, significantly easing pressure on the limited parking facilities near the temple.

Previous Arrangements

In previous years, parking shortages led to long queues and traffic jams on the Chamundi Hills. The use of Lalitha Mahal Palace grounds is expected to streamline the process, with KSRTC operating shuttle services from the palace to the temple. The administration will oversee the orderly management of the premises, ensuring minimal disruption to the palace estate.
