Nashik Municipal Corporation Launches Special Drive to Curb Water Wastage and Misuse

The civic administration in Nashik is set to roll out a comprehensive citywide special enforcement drive starting from April 13, aimed at curbing water wastage and misuse of civic supply. Officials announced on Tuesday that this initiative will include provisions for fines and the seizure of illegally installed equipment to ensure efficient water management across the city.

Drive to Cover All Municipal Divisions

According to officials, the drive will be conducted across all six municipal divisions under the direct supervision of divisional officers. Inspections have revealed significant water wastage due to taps not being fitted on connections. In some areas, consumers have illegally connected electric motors to pipelines, which reduces water pressure for neighboring households and leads to uneven distribution, exacerbating water scarcity issues.

Penalties and Actions Detailed

An office order issued by the Nashik municipal commissioner on April 7 outlines the specifics of the campaign. During inspections, consumers found without taps will face a fine of Rs 100, and taps will be installed immediately on-site. If water meters are missing, non-functional, or tampered with, penal action will be taken under existing rules, with billing adjusted accordingly. Additionally, electric motors found directly connected to water supply pipelines will be permanently seized, and a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on the concerned consumers. Instances of water wastage will also attract a penalty of Rs 100.

Implementation Strategy

To ensure effective implementation, the water supply department will deploy junior engineers, supervisors, and technicians on a ward-wise basis. Dedicated fitters and plumbers will be appointed to install taps where required, while meter readers and water supply staff will assist in detecting violations and initiating action. Police personnel and security guards will be deployed to provide protection to inspection teams, and electricians will accompany squads to assist in the seizure of illegally connected motors.

Appeal for Cooperation

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to cooperate with the campaign and use drinking water responsibly. This drive is part of broader efforts to promote sustainable water usage and address the challenges of water distribution in the city.
