NDMC Launches Major Initiative to Make Public Buildings Disability-Friendly
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has embarked on a significant project to enhance accessibility across its jurisdiction. The council has identified a total of 63 public buildings for comprehensive upgrades with disability-friendly infrastructure, marking a substantial step toward creating a more inclusive urban environment.
Current Progress and Future Timeline
Of the 63 buildings targeted, substantial progress has already been made. Forty-four school buildings have been successfully retrofitted with the necessary accessibility features. The remaining 19 buildings are currently under execution, with the upgrade works expected to be fully completed within the next six to eight months.
A senior NDMC official provided details on the project's scope and financial commitment. "The estimated cost for upgrading the 19 remaining buildings is approximately Rs 4.5 crore," the official stated. "All works are being carried out in strict accordance with prescribed accessibility standards, and we are closely monitoring timelines to ensure timely completion."
