Noida Society Residents Raise Alarm Over Dangerous Electrical Panels
Residents living in Shiv Shakti Apartment, also known as Janta Flats, located in Noida's Sector 71 have voiced serious concerns. They report multiple broken electrical panel boxes within their housing society. This situation creates a clear and present danger of short circuits occurring.
Scale of the Problem and Delayed Repairs
The society contains a total of 1,680 residential units. Out of these, residents confirm that at least 30 meter panel boxes are currently in a state of disrepair. However, the residents themselves believe the actual number is much higher. They claim that last year, more than 80 panels were damaged.
After waiting for over two years, some action was finally taken. Approximately 50 of the faulty panels were either repaired or completely replaced last year. Despite this effort, a significant number of panels remain defective. Thirty electrical panels still await necessary repairs, leaving many homes at risk.
Residents' Complaints and Official Response
Sanjay Shukla, the General Secretary of the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA), spoke about the issue on Monday. He expressed frustration, stating that repeated complaints have yielded no redressal from the authorities.
"These panels are located right next to our buildings," Shukla explained. "There have already been instances of people receiving electric shocks. In many houses, this damaged infrastructure could spark a fire hazard at any moment."
In response to the ongoing danger, the RWA has formally escalated the matter. They have submitted a written letter addressed to the Chief Engineer of the Noida Power Department, PVVNL. The letter urgently requests the replacement of all the damaged meter panels.
Power Department's Current Stance
When contacted for comment, Tejwant Gupta provided an update. Gupta serves as the Sub-Divisional Officer in charge of the area. He informed that there are currently no new, approved plans for electrical upgrades in that specific zone.
However, he acknowledged the residents' complaints. "Proposals are being prepared in response to the issues raised by the residents," Gupta stated. He assured that work on repairs and upgrades would commence once these proposal plans receive official approval.
"In the meantime," he added, "I will dispatch a team to inspect the complaints regarding the meter panels. The team will work to fix the problems identified during the inspection."
The residents of Shiv Shakti Apartment now wait to see if these inspections lead to prompt, concrete action to eliminate the electrical hazards surrounding their homes.
