Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected over Rs 31 crore in property tax between April 1 and June 16 in the current financial year, surpassing the Rs 30 crore collected during the corresponding period last year, despite a drop in the number of taxpayers.
Revenue Growth Amid Fewer Taxpayers
According to official PMC data, 94,553 property owners paid tax by June 16 this year, compared to 98,338 during the same period in the previous financial year. Senior officials attributed the higher revenue to the revised assessment structure based on road categories and property locations, along with improved compliance.
Digital Payments Dominate
Online payments continued to dominate collections. Of the total taxpayers, 57,541 used digital modes, slightly higher than 57,285 in the same period last year. The PMC portal remained the preferred platform, followed by the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
Rebate and Outreach Initiatives
The civic body is offering a 5% rebate on lump-sum payments for the full financial year till June 30 to encourage timely tax payment. To boost compliance, PMC has intensified its outreach drive. Around two lakh property owners are being sent SMS reminders daily, while the control room is directly contacting taxpayers. Messages are also being broadcast through door-to-door garbage collection vehicles across the city.
