Pawan Kalyan Stresses Collective Responsibility for Water Conservation in Andhra Pradesh

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has issued a strong call for collective action to protect water resources, emphasizing that water conservation is vital for the future. Speaking at a workshop in Vijayawada, he declared, "Water is life, and conserving it is our responsibility," underscoring the urgent need to address water-related challenges in the state.

Workshop Focuses on Strengthening Rural Water Supply Systems

The event, titled "Sustainability of Water Resources in Rural Drinking Water Supply System," was held at APSIRD Bhavan. Pawan Kalyan inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp, setting the tone for discussions aimed at enhancing rural water infrastructure under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. He highlighted the critical role of rivers such as Godavari, Krishna, Penna, and Vamsadhara in sustaining livelihoods across Andhra Pradesh, stating, "Where there is water, there is development."

Addressing Key Water Challenges in Rural Areas

During his address, Pawan Kalyan warned of serious threats posed by declining groundwater levels and increasing pollution, particularly in rural regions. He urged for comprehensive conservation efforts, including:

  • Protection of both surface and groundwater sources
  • Promotion of rainwater harvesting techniques
  • Reuse of wastewater to minimize wastage

Officials at the workshop flagged pressing issues such as inadequate surface water availability, groundwater depletion, and contamination. In response, plans are being developed to rejuvenate watersheds in agency and hilly areas and adopt new technologies to tackle water scarcity effectively.

Launch of the 100 Days Water Consumption Drive

As part of the initiative, the state government has launched a "100 Days Water Consumption Drive" scheduled from April 6 to July 14, 2026. This campaign aims to raise public awareness, improve groundwater levels, and reduce water wastage through community engagement and educational efforts.

Alignment with National Vision and Official Participation

The programme aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ensuring safe drinking water for every household, reflecting a coordinated approach between state and national policies. Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary Shashibhushan Kumar, actively participated in the workshop, contributing to discussions on sustainable water management strategies.

This event marks a significant step towards addressing water sustainability in Andhra Pradesh, with a focus on collaborative action and innovative solutions to secure water resources for future generations.
