Pensioner Doctors Announce 'Black Day' on July 1

The Punjab Pensioner Doctors Association (PDAP) has declared that it will observe National Doctors' Day on July 1 as a 'black day' to protest against the state government's failure to address long-standing financial grievances of retired government doctors.

Key Demands Unmet Despite High Court Directives

PDAP president DC Sharma, along with senior vice-presidents DS Bhullar and RS Sethi and general secretary Surinder Singla, stated that thousands of retired doctors who served in government hospitals and medical institutions across Punjab are still awaiting their legitimate pension benefits. Bhullar highlighted several key demands that remain unresolved: release of arrears from the Sixth Punjab Pay Commission, pending dearness relief, restoration of stopped pensions, removal of pension anomalies, and implementation of directives from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Protest Actions Planned

The association has unanimously decided that pensioner doctors will wear black badges on July 1 as a mark of protest. The decision underscores the growing frustration among retired medical professionals who feel neglected by the state government.

According to PDAP leaders, the financial demands are not new but have been repeatedly raised over the years. The failure to act has led to this symbolic protest on a day meant to honor doctors. The association expects widespread participation from retired doctors across Punjab.
