Punjab to launch electoral roll revision on June 25, final list Oct 1

Punjab will launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on June 25, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 1, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra announced on Wednesday. The exercise aims to update and clean the voter database ahead of upcoming elections.

Booth-Level Officers to conduct door-to-door enumeration

Mitra held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the distribution, filling and collection of enumeration forms during house-to-house visits by booth-level officers (BLOs) from June 25 to July 24. A total of 24,453 BLOs will reach out to 2.14 crore electors during the month-long drive.

The rationalisation of polling stations will also be completed by July 24. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 3, allowing voters to verify their details.

Claims and objections window from August 2 to September 2

Objections and claims can be submitted from August 2 to September 2, with disposal of these requests taking place from August 3 to September 9. Mitra confirmed that the final voter list will be published on October 1, ensuring all updates are incorporated.

The CEO informed political party representatives that 86.02 per cent of Punjab's voters have already been mapped. The list of unmapped voters was shared with the parties, and they were appealed to assist election staff in mapping the remaining voters.

Political parties urged to cooperate

Mitra appealed to political parties to actively participate in the SIR process and extend full cooperation to election staff for its successful implementation. She also addressed concerns raised by party representatives regarding the revision process.

Additional CEO Amandeep Garg, Joint CEO Navneet Kaur Bal and representatives of recognised political parties attended the meeting. The collaborative effort aims to ensure accurate and inclusive electoral rolls for Punjab's electorate.
