In a significant move to enhance the punctuality of passenger trains, the Chakradharpur division of South-Eastern Railway (SER) has permanently appointed Abir Mishra as Public Relations Inspector (PRI) at Tatanagar railway station. This decision was formalized through a notification issued on Friday by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Tarun Huria.
Key Responsibilities of the PRI
As per the official order, Mishra will be responsible for monitoring passenger train movements and providing regular briefings on daily arrivals and departures at Tatanagar. His oversight will extend across three critical sections: Kharagpur–Tatanagar, Chakradharpur–Tatanagar, and Chandil–Tatanagar. A primary objective is to ensure that freight traffic does not disrupt passenger services, thereby minimizing delays.
Additionally, the PRI will closely monitor MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) services operating to and from Tatanagar. He will keep passengers and local associations informed about any delays or disruptions. Furthermore, Mishra will actively collect public feedback and grievances, coordinating with railway officials to ensure swift resolution of issues.
Background of the Appointment
The appointment follows a visit by SER General Manager Anil Kumar Jain to the Chakradharpur division on May 27, during which he announced the posting of a PRI at Tatanagar. This move came in response to sustained demands from the Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti (RYSS), which has been campaigning since April 7 for timely running of passenger trains. During his visit, the General Manager categorically stated that passenger trains would no longer be held up for long hours to clear freight traffic.
Reactions and Monitoring
Jamshedpur (West) MLA and RYSS head Saryu Roy welcomed the decision, noting, “The GM has been sincere in acknowledging the plight of passengers enduring enormous hardship and woes due to long passenger train delays caused by prioritising freight trains.” Roy added that he would personally monitor operations over the next 10 days to ensure the new measures are effectively implemented.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve train punctuality and passenger satisfaction in the region, addressing long-standing grievances about delays and lack of communication.
