Sewer Overflow in Hansi's Uttam Nagar Sparks Protests, PHED Vows Action
Sewer Overflow in Hansi's Uttam Nagar Sparks Protests

Residents of Uttam Nagar in Hansi staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) on June 26, 2026, over a persistent sewer overflow problem that has plagued the locality for several months. The demonstrators warned of launching a dharna if the issue is not resolved promptly.

The residents alleged that sewage water has been overflowing onto roads and streets, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians. The foul smell and unhygienic environment have caused considerable inconvenience to families living in the area, they said.

Repeated Complaints Yield No Permanent Solution

Malkit Singh, a resident, stated that several complaints had been submitted to the PHED. He added that residents had also approached local BJP MLA Vinod Bhayana to apprise him of the situation and seek his intervention. However, no permanent solution has been provided so far, he alleged.

Another resident noted that department officials had been informed about the problem on multiple occasions but had only given assurances without taking any concrete action. The lack of a permanent fix has left the community frustrated.

PHED Assures Early Action

PHED Junior Engineer Yogesh Dhamija responded to the protest by assuring residents that officials would visit the site and ensure the sewer overflow problem is resolved at the earliest. The department’s promise aims to defuse the tension, but residents remain skeptical given the history of inaction.

The protest highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in Haryana's smaller towns, where basic amenities like drainage often fail, leading to public health risks and civic unrest.
